Go Greek and Develop Lifelong Friendships
¡One of the most important components of Greek life is friendship.
¡Brotherhood and sisterhood are what hold Greek organizations together.
¡Deep friendships develop through working together toward common goals and provide a sense of family.
¡Even after graduation the strong bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood exist, and often grow stronger.
Go Greek and Have Fun!
While the Greek community promotes high standards of scholarship, develops leadership skills and provides community service, it also has fun!
¡Since UMD is a Commuter school, it is important to join a fraternity or sorority if you want to enjoy a traditional college life on and off campus.
¡Fraternities and sororities offer many social outlets for their members, and each organization sponsors events each quarter.
¡Formal and semi-formal gala events, mixers and philanthropy events are just a few examples of the diverse opportunities to interact and develop strong friendships among the entire Greek community.
¡UMD also supports a Greek Week, which is a whole week full of Olympic style

HOW WILL GREEK LIFE IMPROVE MY SKILLS?
LEADERSHIP
¡Go Greek and be a better leader!
¡Leadership development is another benefit of membership in the Greek community.
¡Chapter members participate in on-going leadership training and education, and the skills they develop in college later translate into success in their careers.
¡Greek organizations provide members with many leadership opportunities both within their chapters and governing councils.
¡Each fraternity and sorority elects and appoints officers each year, and these positions allow both new and seasoned leaders the opportunity to develop and practice essential skills. Time management, organization, effective communication and conflict resolution are just a few examples of skills you will learn as a leader in a Greek organization.
¡Chapter members also get multiple opportunities each year to attend leadership conferences around the country.

SERVICE
The Greek community at UMD values service to the campus and the greater community, and they refer to this service as philanthropy.
¡Philanthropy is defined as active efforts to promote human welfare. Fraternities and sororities at UMD are actively involved in philanthropic activities, and many chapters have adopted specific charitable causes to support such as the American Red Cross or March of Dimes
